Overview
If ever an herb earned the title of ā€œheart medicine,ā€ it’s Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca). Her name says it all—Leonurus cardiaca, or "lion-hearted." This deeply grounding plant has been traditionally used to support emotional balance, nervous system regulation, and reproductive wellness. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, grief, cycle shifts, or heart heaviness, Motherwort shows up like the wise elder who sees all and judges none.

Why We Love It
We turn to Motherwort when we’re tending the nervous system, balancing our cycles, or doing the hard and necessary work of healing the mother wound—that ache left from emotional disconnection, under-mothering, or generational silence.

Motherwort contains numerous plant-based compounds with antioxidant properties, including flavonoids, sterols, triterpenes, and tannins.

How to Use

šŸ«– Steep in blends to calm the nerves and nourish the heart
šŸƒ Motherwort can be infused into oil and applied topically for massage or as a base for herbal salves and balms.

šŸ’§Infuse in alcohol or glycerin for a potent daily tonic
✨Use in energetic work focused on forgiveness, release, or ancestral healing. Add to warm water to release tension and emotional residue.

A Note of Care

Motherwort is not for everyone.  I encourage you to consult with a knowledgeable herbalist or your healthcare provider before incorporating new herbs into your wellness routine—especially if you’re taking heart medications, pregnant,  or managing health conditions.

Contraindications / Cautions:

  • Blood pressure: May lower blood pressure, so caution with hypotension or those on antihypertensive meds.

  • Heart medications: Can interact with cardiac glycosides (like digoxin) or beta-blockers.

  • Bleeding risk: Has mild anticoagulant effects → avoid with blood-thinning meds or upcoming surgery.

  • Pregnancy: Traditionally contraindicated due to uterine-stimulating effects.

      I love my tea!!!!

The motherwort tea was amazing. It was a little bitter but fine when I added lemon and honey. I slept really well after drinking this tea. Thank you so much for all the care you put into packaging and the beautiful thank you card. I look forward to purchasing other products from you.

      Blessings,

Yes the motherwort definitely can be bitter. I also like it with lemon balm or spearmint. Glad you are enjoying it! šŸ’œ
