Passionflower (leaf and stem)

Passiflora incarnata aka passionflower, maypop, apricot vine, maracuja, apricot vine and water lemon,  is a native plant to NC,  the southeastern United States and Central and South America. It produces stunning flower and edible fruit, that when ripe, is akin to sour gummies. The plant has a long history as a plant medicine with many Native and Indigenous cultures who primarily used its roots. Modern day usage includes use of the leaves, stems, and flowers. Passionflower is a powerful sleep aid, nervine (encourages feelings of calm and peace), analgesic (pain-relieving) and supports healthy blood pressure. 

 

Passionflower Tea:

Instructions: Steep dried passionflower  in hot water to create a calming and flavorful tea. It is known for its relaxation properties and may help with sleep.

 

Passionflower Tincture:

Ingredients: Dried passionflower, alcohol (such as vodka or brandy)

Instructions: Create a tincture by combining dried passionflower with alcohol. Allow it to sit for a few weeks, shaking it regularly. This can be taken in small doses and may support relaxation.

 

Passionflower Infused Oil:

Ingredients: Dried passionflower, carrier oil (like olive, almond or jojoba)

Instructions: Infuse dried passionflower in a carrier oil for a few weeks. This oil can be used topically, potentially for skin conditions or as a massage oil for relaxation.

 

Passionflower Syrup:

Ingredients: Dried passionflower, water, sweetener (honey, sugar, or alternative)

Instructions: Create a syrup by simmering dried passionflower in water, then straining and adding a sweetener. This syrup can be added to beverages or desserts.

 

Passionflower Bath Salts:

Ingredients: Epsom salts, dried passionflower, essential oils (optional)

Instructions: Mix Epsom salts with dried and crushed passionflower. Add a few drops of essential oils if desired. Use these bath salts for a relaxing and aromatic bath.

 

Passionflower Herbal Smoking Blend:

Ingredients: Dried passionflower leaves, other herbs like mint, holy basil, or hemp flower

Instructions: Create a calming herbal smoking blend by mixing dried passionflower leaves with other herbs. This can be used as a tobacco alternative.

 

Passionflower Capsules:

Ingredients: Ground dried passionflower

Instructions: Fill empty capsules with ground dried passionflower for a convenient way to take passionflower supplements.
